DOCKERS' STRIKE AT ANTWERP. Received August 6, 9 a.m. . ANTWERP, August 5. Dockers at a critical moment struck and obtained an increase of tenpence a day. This concession has since been withdrawn, and the employers are importing 1,200 British dockers as a precaution against similar situations. RAISULI AND KAID MACLEAN. Received August 6, 8.15 a.m. MOROCCO, August 5. The Sultan's troops heavily defeated the Hackmass tribe, taking many prisoners, but the Government losses were severe. The defeat has improved the prospects of Sir Harry Maclean's release.
THE TRAIN DISASTER A£ PONTDECE. Received August 6, 8.15 a.m. PARIS, August 5. The derailment of the train at Pontdece was due to a portion of an iron bridge sinking and bending the rails. The victims are estimated to number thirty. A TIMELY ESCAPE. Received August 6, 9 a.m. CONSTANTINOPLE, August 5. Colonel Elliot, reported to have been wounded at Guredjik, was actually captured by those who kidnapped Miss Stone in 1904. They were preparing to remove him to the mountains when the timely operations of Turkish troops enablen him to escape. GOOD SHOOTING. Received August 6, 9.45 p.m. LONDON, August 6. Their Majesties King Edward and Queen Alexandra and the Prince and Princess of Wales went on a short cruise in the Dreadnought, and witnessed the gun-laying practice with 12in. guns. Of the twelve rounds fired, eleven hit the target, nine being bulls-eyes. The range , was one mile and a half. His Majesty King Edward warmly complimented the gunners and decorated the best marksman. He afterwards watched the evolutions of eight of the latest type of submarines. A PIONEER RAILWAY. Received August 6, 9.29 p.m. LONDON, August 6. Mr Winston Churchill states that the Government has decided to construct a pioneer railway for 400 miles in Nigeria from Baro to Kango, at a cost of £1,230,000, opening up territory towards Lake Chad.
