MUSICAL AND LITERARY COMPETITIONS.
(To the Editor.) Sir—ln reply to "Musical's" letter of 24th inst., "Musical" says there is one remark in my former letter that calls for an answer, viz., the Band promoted this scheme and formed a guarantee. Ho then goes on to say that did not warrant them calling upon the citizens. "Musical" must have overlooked the fact that the Band is a public institution, and therefore entitled to call upon the citizens for their support. Why doesn't "Musical" put forward some scheme for the benefit of the other musical institutions he mentions? I do not think the Masterton Band would ask for a share in the proceeds. On the other hand I think he would be sure of their help in every way. It seems that in my last letter I have rubbed against one of "Musical's" sensitive corners. For this I hurnbiy apologise. What a pity we are not all intellectual giants! But then even the harmony .might become depressing. In conclusion I would remind "Musical" (when he again takes up his pen) that I am not the Band, bul, PRESTO VIVO. Masterton, July 24th, 1907.
