MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING.
The ordinary meeting ofdhaMasterton Borough Council, last evening, waa' presided over byCrJ. H..PaulifPpn the absence of the Mayor. (Mr J. M. Coradme). There were also present—Crs J. Elliott, .F. W. Temple, A. Haughey, W. JBragnell, J. C. Ewington, J. Prentice, J. Yarr and W. Morris. Mrs E. Wilsone wrote .slating that she had no objection to giving the required authority to allow the drainage mains to be taken through her property in Villa Street provided she was relieved from paying any rates on the Bentley Street frontage of the property until such tune, as a house "is erected thereon. She also required the fences to be 4eft in good order, and the ground where the line of pipes is laid to Jbu .well filled in. The . letter was referred to the Works Committee. A claim for a refund of rates .paid on property in Villa Street by Mr J. D. Hegearty. of Greytovvn, was referred to the Finance Committee. Messrs F. King and Son wrote asking the Council to consider the esec--,tion of a gas-lamp in Hogg Crescent. •fThe Engineer stated that the Council had previously authorised the erection of a lamp in that street, tbut the delay in connection therewith was due to the fact that the iiamp fittings had not yet come to thand. A letter was received from the Secretary of the Masterton South jßrass Band asking the Council for information as to the ownership of she building at the rear of the Fire Brigade which the Band desired to use as a practice room. The Band asked the Council to quote the lowest possible terms at -which they were prepared to let the room. Cr Morris said that the Masterton South Band were anxious to obtain a practice room, and had been unable to get any satisfaction from the supposed owners of the shed when apDlication was made to them for the use of it. Consequently the Band had sought the assistance of the Council. Crs Pauling, Temple, Ewington and Prentice were appointed a committee to go into the matter, with power to £ict Mr J. L. Murray wrote making application for a license for the Exchange Buildings, a portion of which is to be used for socials, dances and meetings. The room to be used for this purpose, is SDft by 52ft and has accommodation for three hundred persons. The application was granted subject to the report of the Engineer. Mr J. C. Ingram, Secretary of Kuripuni Hall Trustees, wrote ap- , plying for a license for the hall for " the purpose of holding dancing classes during the winter. The same course was adopted as in respect to Mr Murray's application. " Mr A. R. Maitby wrote applying for a permit to carry on a shooting gallery on premises leased by him in Queen Street. The letter, which was written before Mr Maitby's premises were partially destroyed by fire, was allowed to stand over until the next meeting. It was decided to have a report from the inspector on the application at next meeting. Messrs W. Cole and J. Bulpitt wrote applying for the sum of £3O being the amount due to them by the Council in connection with the giving of land for the widening of Michael and Chapel Streets. The amount was passed for payment subject to the deed of dedication being put in order. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Ewington, to sell the sections in the River Road Reserve by auction, the reserve to b3 fixed by the Works Committee. The offer of Messrs Dagg Bros, for a supply of stgnes for the crusher was accepted.
