"MR HORNSBY'S SOCIALISM."
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Your correspondent "X", is not so obtuse as he would have your readers believe. He is anxious to put me down as a Socialist of the Fabian School. I merely said that Mr Wilks had spoken of Socialism as a something to be shuddered at. My reference to the Fabian School was made with the object of proving that Mr Wilks was writing wildly. I went on to state what was thi nature of my Socialism. If your correspondents persist in attempts to misunderstand me, they are at liberty to go on doing it; but I shall not feel called upon to reply. Let me again say that I am a Christian Socialist, and if any of your correspondents desire to carry on a discussion at all with me, it must be carried on from the basis of the Socialism of the New Testament. Your correspondent "X" says that I "father my Fabian principles upon the founder of the Christian religion." There is a short, sharp word in the English language which properly describes the conduct of such men as "X." It is a pity that any man (more especially when he is afraid to sign his name to his letters) should so grossly misrepresent another man who happens to hold a public position. —I am, etc., ! J. T. M. HORNSBY.
