At a meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union, held last night, it was decided to take firm steps to put down rough play. Several cases were dealt with, and after hearing lengthy evidence it was resolved to disqualify for life an Opunake player, that he be warned off all football grounds, and that a copy of the evidence be handed to the police. In the case of a Waimate player, the union was of the opinion that it had not been proved to their satisfacton that he struck the blow! that caused the injuryj to the Opunake manjbut that he evidently struck the other player at an earlier stage of the game. Therefore it was decided that he be disqualified until the end of the 1908 season. Another player was also disqualified[until the end of 1908, ] while two others, for not leaving the field when requested by the referee, wore disqualified until the end of the present season. It was also resolved to ask the , Southern Referees' Association to enquire into the case of ' tha referee in the Opunnke-Wuimato match, where rough play occurred, evidence in the hands of the union tanding to show that the referae did not exercise proper control of the match. A Clifton player was suspended for one month from June 20th for failing to leave the field when ordered.
