TRUST LANDS TRUST.
MONTHLY MEETING. The first meeting of the newlyelected Trustees of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held last even-'' ing. There were present—Messrs T. B. Michell (chairman), T. Wagg, D. Caselberg, E. G. Eton, W. H. Jackson, E. McEwen and R. Krahagen. The Secretary read the result of the recent elections, and the Chairman welcomed the new Trustees to their seats, hoping, at the same time, that the members would work well together and facilitate the business of the Trust. Mr T. B. Michell was elected chairman for the ensuing year. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £124 7s sd. A telegram was read from Mr J.'A. Renall congratulating the newlyelected Trustees. The Secretary of the Masterton School Committee wrote forwarding a resolution passed at the annual meeting of householders, in which the Trust were thanked for their donations to the High School during the past year. Applications for annual grants were made by the Masterton School Committee and by the Rev. Dean McKenna, on behalf of St. Patrick's School. The Trustees decided to hold a special meeting, on Friday next, to consider all education
grants. [ Misses R. Messenger and F. Kay wrote, applying for a £lO scholarship each to assist them in their University studies. The applicants stated that they had matriculated. The applications were granted. Captain Dixon, of the Masterton Fire Police, wrote asking permission to test the fire hoses in the Town Hall. On the motion of Mr Krahagen, the necessary permission was given. An application for the lease of a Trust section was made by Mr M. 0. Arensten. He offered to take a lease of the section in Hall Street, near Queen Street, if the Trustees erected thereon a suitable building for him. The letter was received. It was stated that the Trust could not build on their sections until the proposed loan for building purposes had been carried. Mr D. Mcintosh was given permission to sub-let the rooms over his shop in Queen Street to Mr H. Fraser. It was decided that five .members should form a quorum at the meetings of the Trust. The tender of Messrs Prentice and Sons at £7O was accepted for raising and improving a Trust cottage in Dixon Street. It was decided to procure a dozen copies of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust Empowering Act 1889 and its amendments since that date. Accounts amounting to £l5B lis lOd were passed for payment.
