WORKMEN'S HOME MOVEMENT.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Seeing its the intention of the promoters of the above to hold a meeting on Wednesday night next, I should like to say its for the workmen to say if we are to have the homes here or not. I don't see why we shouldn't. Every man should have a home, and in the case of those who want them the sooner the better. It is in the prime of life that a man can earn the cash to get it. If he waits for some distant date, or to get the ready money, he may never own a home. Therefore, the Government has given us the Workers' Dwellings Act, to help the workman to obtain a home, and if the conditions are not altogether what they should be or desired, its for the workman to say so at the meeting, and suggest improvement in the Act. The Act is a good machine for the workman, and he has a right to use it. It was intended for him, and can be made workable. The average wage-3arner is not able to save much and has little to spare if he pays his way. So he wants all the help that the Government can give him. Granted he may obtain a home in other ways, but, in most cases, he has to vvait a very long time, and still be paying the high rent that is asked of him, which is a burden in itself, for, in some cases the tenant is buying the house for the owner, that he should have for himself. So trusting the meeting will have the workmen's support, and be well attended, as I am informed there is some very important business to be done. Hoping, Sir, I have not taken up too much of your valuable space.—l am, etc., FAIR PLAY. Masterton, May 25, 1907.
