MASTERTON COLLIE CLUB.
TO BE TAKEN OVER BY A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
A special meeting of the Master ton A. and P. Association was held on Saturday afternoon to meet a depu- » tation from the Masterton Collie Club with a request that the Club be taken over by the Association. There were present:—Messrs R. Gray (chairman), D. McGregor, jm\, F. W. Carey, R. Johnstone, Jos. Morris, Bland Rayner, W. Cooper, Wm. Perry, W. McKenzie, R. J. Dagg and J. C. McKillop. The deputation consisted of Messrs W. Welsh and T. Riddell. Mr Welsh stated that the Club had had difficulties of late, and could do very well with the assistance of the A. and P. Association. He thought all sheep-owners should take an interest in the Club. The Club had the
promise of sheep for the next trials. Club wanted some energy infused into its working. It was in a sound position, financially, and he would like to see it progress. If the Association would give the matter of taking the Club over thenearnest consideration, the committee of the Club would be pleased to work _/.in conjunction with them. The Secretary of the Collie Club .read a statement of accounts showing the Club to be in a sound financial position. Mr Riddle said he would be pleased to see the Association take over the working of the Club. If the Association did not do so then the Club would probably become defunct. Mr Perry asked what was the Club's chief difficulty? Mr Welsh said the chief difficulty was to get the members of the Committee to attend meetings or to the work of the Club generally. If the Association took the Club.over the committee would see "that the present liabilities of the Club were met. The deputation then withdrew in order to allow the matter to be discussed. Mr Carey considered that if the Collie Club was a good thing for sheep men and for the sheep district, it was worthy of support from the Association, and if it was liable to become defunct he thought the Association should serioiisly consider the matter of taking it over. Mr Perry said if the Association took over the working of the Club they would have to run it as a separate institution from the other work of the Association. He thought they should appoint a committee of about three to take the matter in hand. He considered there would be no harm in the Association taking it up, and running it for a year as a trial. He accordingly moved: "That this Association take over the work cf
the Maaterton Collie Club jjfor or.e* year as a trial, and run it apart from the other business of the Association, at an annual subscription of" 10s, the Club to undertake to liquidate its .present liabilities, and still to be known as the Masterton Collie Club, conducted under the auspices of the Masterton A. and P. Associaion." Mr Perry said there was no question but that the collie dog trials were a good thing for the district, and he would like to see them still carried on. Mr McKillop seconded the motion, which was carried by eight votes to two. The following committee, 'With g power to add to their number, was appointed to carry out the dog trials: —MesßrsJ. P. Perry, F. W. Carey and John Macrae.
A meeting of the General Commitee of the Masterton Collie Club was'held in the A. and P. Association's rooms, on Saturday evening, when there were present:- Messrs T. Riddell (in the chair), W. L. Falconer, W. Welsh, J. McPhee, H. Welch, A. Snodgrass and P. Dransfield. The Secretary reported that Messrs T. Riddell and W. Welsh had waited upon the A. and P. Association in connection with the latter body taking over the Collie Club. The resolutions passed by the A. and P. Association were confirmed by the Club, and Messrs W. Welsh, T. Riddell and A. Meikle (or W. L. Falconer) were appointed as representatives of the Collie Club to work with the A. and P. Committee. The Secretary was instructed . to call a meeting of the A. and P. ' Association and Collie Club Committees at 2.30 p.m., on Wednesday, May 22nd.
