(By All Black.) The Wairarapa Rugby Union's championship fixtures will coramtn* this afternoon. The. Senior matches will be Red ."Star v. Carterton, at Masterton. and Greytown v. Gladstone, at Gladstone. The Junior contests are: Masterton v. Red Star, at Masterton; Martinborough v. Feather3ton, at Euatherston; Ruahine v. Carfcercnn, at Greytown. To-day the Red Stars will bo seen for the first time in their new clours —black and'white. The jerseys were presented to the Club by one of the Vice-Presidents. The match between the Carterton • and Red Star Seniors, to-day, promises tcvba keenly contested. *4S!?Sroving every match." This is the general verdict on J. Corbett, -one of the Star forwards. The match, last Saturday, between •Greytown and Red Star was fairly interesting. Both teams were without = several of their Senior players, but nevertheless good individual farm was shown. Scorrar stood out as <*ne of the best forwards on the ground. Corbett followed up weU and put in a lot of hard work. Wickens did some clever footwork, and was al- ■ ways in the van of a forward rush. The Star forwardsj&enerally mig'»t • copy these three players in the matter of following up. If the Stars wish to win against Carterton, to-day, the forwards must ikeep on the ball and follow up well. Their chance of winning depends • .largely on this Norman did some fine work in the front row for the Stars, and the Club i.has found ip him a worthy successor C. McKenzie, one of last year's : front-rankers. R. McKenzie, a promoted junior, >put in some good work on 'he wing, - and is improving with each game. Chamberlain is another forward who is going to be of considerable use -to the Stars this season. His play last Saturday augurs well for future . matches. ' Dorsett, at five-eighth, put in •splendid work, and he is going to make a really good player. Wrigley, as usual, was here, there ■ and everywhere, and made some good runs. McLachlan's defensive work was splendid; his collaring and taking of ■the ball being a marked feature of the game. Wing, at full-back, got the Stars out of more than one tight corner. This player is very fast, takes a ball well, is a sure collarer. Walker, at half, played the best game he has yet played for the Stars. He got the ball out to the backs very -smartly. Carrick, who has, it is understood, of late years given his attention to Association, occupied a position on one of the wings, and did some good work. This is a player the Stars ■ should keep their eye on. The accident to Darvill, whereby he* sustained a broken leg, had a depressing effect on the game. Darvill :is a "clean" player, and his unfortunate accident will be regretted by all lovers of the game in the Wairarapa. His loss to the Stars is a serious matter, as he is probably best back. v9*ie P^ ay tne G revtown team • for little comment. The backs did not show up to much advantage. The forwards played a good solid game. Workman and Wynes stood out ■ -on their own, and led nearly every forward rush.
