MT. HOLDSWORTH TRACK COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Mt. Holdsworth Track Committee was held last evening in the Masterton Borough Council Chambers. Mr D. McGregor, snr., presided, and there were also present;— Messrs J. C. Ewingtori, C. Bannister, H. Evans, A. E. Winzenberg, and 3.. Dagg. The Secretary reported that the receipts amounted to £37 12s sd, and the expenditure £32 12s 6d, leaving a credit balanee of £4 19s lid. The Chairman stated that the Committee had discharged all its liabilities and had a credit balance which must be considered satisfacory. The track was in good order, and the bridge over the Maungaterere had been built. There was Still about £lO or £ls to come in from subscribers. He also stated that the bridge had been built chiefly by the efforts of people who had given material and their services free. Mr C. E. Daniell had given the timber for the bridge, and Mr H. O'Leary the staples, and Mr Thompson had assisted in putting the structure together. The Secretary read a letter from the Tourist Department stating that the Government had granted £SO for the construction of a hut on the mountain.

It was decided to apply to the Crown Lands Ranger for permission to fell the necessary timber on the mountain for the construction of the hut.

The question of a suitable kind of hut was discussed, and it'was decided to recommend the erection of a hut at the second camp, the specifications for which are as follow: — "That the hat be built of birch timber, to be obtained on the mountain, the hut to be roofed with iron, and lined with ruberoid, the hut to be lighted by four windows, and the chimney to be of iron lined with sod or brick. The hut will be 30ft xl4ft with a 7ft stud, and will be divided into two bedrooms and one living room. The bedrooms will be furnished with eight bunks each/ and the living room with a table and two forms/'

The Secretary was instructed to submit the plans for the hut to the Government before placing them before the General Committee.

Messrs McGregor, Dagg and Bannister were appointed a Committee to select the exact locality for the hut.

It was resolved to recommend the General Committee to levy a shilling per head on all people who ascended the mountain. The money received from this source .will be devoted to further improving the track.
