EKETAHUNA AND ALFREDTON SALE'S. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held their Alfredton sale on Thursday. There : was a large entry of sheep, considerably more coming > forward than advertised. The attendance of buyers was fair, and »all young sheep were disposed of,, though aged i sprts were neglected. At Eketahuna» yesterday about 4,500 shedf> wfe^e ; yavded. There'' was a large!, attendance of- buyers, and bidding was spirited throughout, all line's with two exceptions being cleared at very satisfactory prices. Cattle were not in demand. Good 2-tooth ewes sold to 16s 4d, others to 14s sd, best breeding ewes 13s 6d to 15s 4d, medium ewes 9s 3d to 10s 9d, culls 3s 5d to Bs, forward shorn rape lambs 9s to 10s 3d, shorn store lambs 6s Id to 8s 3d, 2-tooth Romney rams 3fgns, aged Romney rams 10s to 15s, 4-year steers 90s, 2year steers 30s, forvvard heifers 50s.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd., report as follows on their Eketahuna stock sale yesterday:—We had a very heavy; yarding in sheep, and succeeded in selling, all lines with one exception, at the same time topping the market for young ewes, fat ewes, shorn lambs and Lincoln rams. All throughout the sale bidding was spirited *and prices were in advance of previous sales. Cattle entries were limited, and rates showed no improvement. Quotations: Best youngjewes 15s Id, 2 and 4-tooth 13s 9d, fat ewes 14s Bd, young wethers (good) 14s 2d, sound Jewes 13s 9d, others 12s 6d, lis, I,os, and 9s, culls 7s to Bs, best shorn ,lambs (really good) up to lis 2d, rape lambs 9s 6d, 9s and 8s 6d, stores 7s, 8s and 6s, 2-tooth, Lincoln rams up to signs, others 4gns, aged rams 2gns, ljgn, old and boilers 10s and 7s 6d.
PALMERSTON N., Feb. 28. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report:—At Palmerston to-day (Thursday) we had a large yarding of sheep, and all classes met with a keen competition. The few lines that were passed in found buyers very soon after. Cattle were in short supply, and most lines were quitted at recent rates.
