Dr. L. Cockayne, of Christchurch, who is engaged in writing a book on the biology of New Zealand, has just returned to Invercargill, after a five weeks' stay at Stewart Island. He told a Southland Times reporter that he had discovered eighty unrecorded species of plants, bringing the total species for the island to 450. Dr. Cockayne considers the island has a great future as a tourist resort, and that steps should be taken as soon as possible for the preservation of the magnificent forests on the shores of Ports Pegasus and William and. Patterson's Inlet.
