FIRE AT THE EXHIBITION.

By Telegraph—-Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 4. A fire broke out in Messrs Sargood, Son and Ewan's stall at the Exhibition, this afternoon, and before it was extinguished had destroyed a quantity of decoration material and valuable mechanical advertising pictures. The outbreak was caused by the fusing of two electric wires forming part of the system installed by the proprietors for the purpose of working the pictures. A Permanent Artilleryman on duty in the locality subdued the flames with four of the portable chemical extinguishers placed throughout the building, and the fire was finally extingiushed by one of the chemical fire engines at the Exhibition.
