THE GOURKO CONTRACT SCANDALS. Received January 28, 8.43 a.m. ST. PETERSBURG, Jan. 27. M. Stolypin, the Premier, has cancelled the contract for given by M. Gourko, Assistant Minister of the Interior, to M. Lidval, a proprietor of gaming-tables, to supply bread to starving peasants. (M. Gourko, who is,a son of the General who made himself famous in the Russian-Turkish War, was alleged to have given a contract worth many millions of roubles to Lidval. It is said Gourko acted under the . influence of a dressmaker when he gave the contract, which was for the supply of bread to starving peasants. Lidval was not in any way connected with the grain trade, ancTit is stated that he merely pocketed a commission, and that another man Sottkis, who had disappeared, was the actual purchaser. A committee was appointed by the Czar to enquire into the matter.)
