ALFREDTON.
(From a Correspondent). Friday. Three linemen are engaged install-. ing the metallic circuit between Alfredton and Eketahuna. A telephone exchange is also being fitted up. Six new subscribers have already been connected, and others have promised to do so shortly. It is the intention of the department to connect Haunui and Waihoke Valley in the near future by branch lines of telephone from Pongaroa. The coach that left Eketahuna for Alfredton this afternoon met with an accident, fortunately unattended with serious consequences. The driver (Mr Jones) had occasion to leave his seat to deliver the mail bag attheTawatai Tollgate, and whilst doing so his hdrses were frightened, and immediately bolted. The three passengers jumped out of the coach, and sustained a few bruises and a hasty shaking. Mr Jones, the driver, made a splendid effort to stop the horses, but without success. He was knocked down by one of the wheels of the coach. The horses raced over Dunderdale's Hill, and half-way down the Afred ton side, when one of the back wheels struck the side of the cutting and snapped ' oif at the collar. This had the effect of acting as a brake, and pulling the horses up.
