EXHIBITION BOWLING TOURNAMENT.
•»— : — By Telegraph—Press Association. ' CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 18. The Exhibition Bowling Tournament was continued to-day, further rounds of the Doubles Championship being got off and a start being made with the Singles. In the latter probably three of the strongest singlehanded players in the colony —McLaren (Dunedin), Carswell (Taieri), and N.> Bell (Wellington)—were defeated. The B and C grade ties advanced another stage, but the semi-finals of the Rink Championships were not completed. In the afternoon the North v. South Island match was played, and resulted in a win for the North Island by 309 to 305. The game, was a very close one, but a number of rinks were necessarily weakened owing to the decision of the Association that every club playing in the tournament should A be represented in the match. A heavy squall, with rain and hail, came up from the south-west just before the game started, but the greens played fairly well notwithstanding. The game had just ..finished when another squall came up. To-morrow the semi-finals and the finals of the Rink Championship will be played, and the Singles and Doubles will be continued.
