Light showers of rain [have fallen here since Saturday morning, but so far there has been no heavy downpour to relieve the drought-stricken ares. FEILDING,' January 14. Heavy rain fell throughout yesterday and last night all over the district and will do an enormous amount of good. NAPIER, January 14. Splendid soaking rains have con- . tinued at intervals since Saturday. WAIPAWA, January 14. . The heaviest thunderstorm known | for thirty years occurred on Saturday J evening, accompanied by terrific peals and vivid lightning, lasting | half an hour. No serious damage is reported. Steady rain has fallen since i WANGANUI, January 14. Intensely hot and stormy weather is being experienced here, with frequent rain. The heat is very trying, but the rain will do . much good. There is a considerable fresh in the river, and it is evidently raining hard inland. Heavy rain has been falling all the evening, and the Wanganui River is high and judging by reports from the back country a flood may be looked for.
