MAURICEVILLE SPORTS.

(Special Reporter). The twenty-sixth annual gathering of the Mauriceville Sports Club was held on the Sports Ground yesterday. There was a very large attendance. The various events were keenly contested, and the arrangements made by the energetic secretary (Mr Chas. Brooks) were complete, and he was ably assisted during the day by Mr D. McKenzie. The meeting was carried out without a hitch. The Eketahuna Brass Band rendered various items during the day. The following are the results of the various events: —

Local Maiden Handicap, 100 yds—- . "Canon 1, T. Rossiter 2. Five others started. Won easily. Mauriceville Handicap—loo Yards: A. H. Baskeville, 6yds, ,1; V. Richards, 6yds, 2; 0. M. Cbristensen, Byds, 3. Five others started. Splendid finish between first and second men. 220 Yards: A. H. Baskeville, 15yds, 1; V. Richards, 16yds, 2; N. H. McEwen, Byds, 3. There were four starters. A splendid finish, half a yard separating first and second ;the third man was a yard away. 440 Yards: N. H. McEwen, Byds, 1; A. H. Baskeville, 22yds, f2. The winner got away well, and finished easily, winning by a couple of yards. Hop, Step, and Jump. —A. H. Baskeville (scr), 39ft 9in, 1; O. M. Christensen (6in handicap), 38ft 4in, 2; N. H. McEwen, (3in .handicap), 37ft llin, 3. Local Boys' Race, 16 years and under.—R. Wilton 1, W. T. Hunt 2. Six others started. Won easily.

Spinsters' Race. —M. Brooks 1, M. Rowe. Six others were nominated, but only three started. Won without any effort. Women's Race, 75 yards.—Mrs C. Hansen 1, Mrs Walker 2. Three started. Won easily.

"Light-weight Wrestling (11 stone and under, catch-as-qatch-can)—C. Braddock 1, C. Hansen 2. Four others competed. Ticket Race, 100 yards.—N. H. McEwen 1. C. Neilson held the winning ticket. Sixty-two nominations.

Farmers' Race, 100 yds.—A. H. Clarke 1, H. Fletcher 2. Won easily. Half-mile Handicap.—N. H. McEwen 1, A. H. Baskeville 2, V. Richards 3. Won very easily; a close finish between second and third.

Chopping Competition.—C. Jensen 1, J. Ranson 2. Quoits Match.—C. Tootell 1, H. Christensen 2. Old Men's Race. —C. Blewitt 1, G. McLennan 2. Four others started. An easy-win. Ladies' Nail-driving Competition. —Mrs Morgan 1, Mrs Edwards 2. One Mile Handicap.—A. H. Baskeville, 70yds, 1; W. Payne, 80yds, 2; A. Larsen, 90 yds, 3. Four started. Baskeville took the lead, and won by four yards. The third man was fifteen yards away. Heavy-weight Wrestling (Cumberland style).—M. O'Hagan 1, J. Creelman 2. Ticket Race, ,100 yds. —J. Moore 1. The winning ticket was held by J. Kennedy. Fifty nominations. Hunting Competition.- Rummer's Ci'eamy 1. Nine started. Won easily. Horse Trot Handicap. —A. Larsen's Pilot 1, T. Carroll's Chancer 2. Nine started. The winner, was well ridden, and won by a length. High Jump.—G. Reading, 4ft 7in, 1; R. Smith 2.
