NIREAHA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tuesday. Since writing last the weather in this district has been most favourable to the dairying industry and every one is so hard at work that there is little time for attending to extraordinary affairs. A meeting was convened by Mr N. Davidson with the object of putting the Nireaha library on a better footing. Although Nireaha possesses one of the finest little libraries which one could have for a place of its size, yet for some unexplained reason the library is lifeless and the list of subscribers has dwindled away until only a few remain. Unfortunately Mr Davidson's meeting was not well attended but a. number of new subscriptions have been promised and it is hoped before long to get the institution back to its former healthy state. During the week Mr Page of Mangaraupi met with an accident, while engaged rolling a log with a jack. The log rolled and jammed his leg against a stump with the result that he received some nasty , bruises. The Nireaha Branch of the N.Z. Farmer's Union have postponed their meeting which was to have been held last Monday evening for 6 weeks owing to the inability of the farmers to attend. t The sections in the Nireaha Forest Reserve I am now informed will not be balloted for on the 27th inst. The ballot has been postponed for two or three month's. At the request of the Wellington Land Board the County Council have decided to impound all stock straying in the reserves here. The. childrens gardens, at the Nireaha School are looking well and reflect credit on teachers and scholars alike. The Nireaha Co-operative , Dairy Company are laying drain pipes in at the rear of the whey tank so as to carry away the water which lies in the vicinity of the tank. Some of the Mills in our, district are working short handed owing to some of the hands being sick.
