THE SENSATION OF THE SEASON.
NEXT SATURDAY NIGHT. The marvellous ability of colonial horsemen to ride buck-jumpers and horses of the wildest description is well-known, but there are probably not a great many people, even in a stock-raising district like the Wairarapa, who have ever witnessed a; real- buck-jumping exhibition, such as are commonly held "out back" in Australia. Rolfe Boldrewood, Harry Lawson and other Australian writers, including many contributors to the Bulletin, have described in graphic language how the skill,.'daring, and equestrian prowess of Australian stock-riders have conquered the wildest and most stubborn specimens of horseflesh. It may, therefore, be regarded as certain that there will be a very large attendance at the Masterton Showgrounds on Saturday evening next, when "The Sensation ofj,the Season," an entirely original, exciting and educational buck-jump-ing exhibition will be held. The exhibition, it may be taken for granted, will long be remembered by those who witness it. The programme advertised in this morning's issue certainly suggests plenty of fun. Bucking horses, mules, and bullocks will be ridden, while ponies, given to "festive" moods, will be provided for the enjoyment of plucky boys. The management offer prizes—for instance, £5 will be given to the owner of any horse which can throw their riders within five minutes, flank rope given in. Then "Acrobat" is evidently somewhat difficult to bestraddle for any length of time, for a prize of £2 is held out to anyone who can ride the horse for one minute in. a hunting saddle. In addition to the prizes mentioned there is another one of £2 for the best local rider. There are many excellent horsemen in the Wairarapa, and altogether the exhibition announced should prove very attractive to both competitors and spectators.
