A MAORI WOMAN MURDERED.

MURDERER STILL AT LARGE. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, Deo. 15. A murder was committed by a Maori named Hirini Taui, aged 36, at a settlement neax Kaikohe, Bay of Islands, last night, the viotim being a Maori woman named Marata Peneha. She was shot dead by Taui, who also shot at her son, seriously wounding him. The murdere* subsequently escaped, and is still at; large.

LATER PARTICULARS. AUCKLAND, Deo. 15. The Kaikohe correspondent of the Star telegraphs as follows with re-. gard to the shooting case:—Herini Haihai Taui, of lautoro. last night, shot Mrs Peneha King), wife of the native constable at Kaikohe, also her son 14 years old. The woman died shortly afterwards. Her son is in a critical condition. The cause of the crime-was jealousy. Taui, it is said, intended shooting his own wife, who was in the house with Mrs Kingi. Pour shots were fired, the first wounding the woman, and Ibe second her son. The other two shots fired had no effect. Constables Oahill and King are in pursuit of Taui. He was last seen by a native named Waa nn the road to Kaikoa, with a gun slung across bis shoulder. He informed Waa that he intended finishing his mission.
