ABYSSINIA.

KING MENELIK AND THE EUROPEAN AGREEMENT. Received December 12, 8.28 a.m. LONDON, December 11. King Menelik has given his adherence to the agreement between Britain, France, and Italy in regard to Abyssinia, conditionally on his sovereign rights not being infringed. (The agreement between the three Powers concerned was made for the purpose of defining their respective interests in the territories adjoining Abyssinia, especially in connection with railways. One line already runs close to the Abyssinia border, and it was proposed to carry it as far as Addis Abeba. The agreement was communicated to King Menelik as a matter of courtesy, but bis acceptance of its provisions was not essential).
