COLLISION BETWEEN A STEAMER AND DREDGE.

By Telegrapn— Presa association GREYMGUTH, December 6. A collision oocurxed on the river this afternoon between the s.s. Hawea and the Harbour Board dredge. The Hawea, timber laden, was leaving for Lyttelton, and had fairly swung in the river when she went around astern. The captain gave instructions to drop anchor, but the vessel was carried round with the stream, and cashed into the dredge. The dredge was tadly damaged, the ladder being carried away. Some of j the orew, on notioing the danger, dived into the river and swam ashore. The dredge was towed into the cattle wharf. The Hawea was not damaged, and i proceeded to sea. The damage to the dredge: is estimated at £3OO.
