FATAL ACCIDENT.

GHRISTCHUROU, Deo. 5. At one u'elook, this morning, a motor-car containing five men, and driven by Mr T. W. Felton, ran into a night-cart on tiie Riciaartou Road. The pole of the night-cart entered the body of Mr G. De Montalk, who was sitting with Felton on the froi)t seat of the motoroar. Mr De Montalk was flung out on to the road, and died in a few minutes. Mr Felton waH also thrown out and irijured, the others being badly shaken. The driver of the, nigbtoart was aninjured. Medical aid was secured, and Mr Felton was taken to tho Hospital. The uight was clear, and it is difficult to account for tho failure of the driver of the motor.oar to see and avoid the cart, wuioh was on its proper side of the road, and the oar had fully c* chain space all to itself. Both the oar and the oart carried lights. Mr Do Montalk was a motor-oar agent. THE INQObJST. OHRIBTOLIUROH, Dec. 5. ! The inquest opened, this afternoon, touching tho death of George de Montalk. Formal evidence of identification was giren, and the inquest, was adjourned till Monday, December 17tb. The prinoial witness, the driver of tbn oar, is at present in the hospital, and will not be out until about ten days.
