THE FARMERS' UNION.

MR M'OURDY'S RESIGNATION

The resignation of Mr A. J. M'Curdy as general seoretary and organiser of the New Zealand Farmers' Union has resulted id interesting complications which will be fully threshed out in the Supreme Court at an early date. At first there was some difference of opinion between Mr M'Ourdy and the advisory board of the Farmers' Union as to who had the right; to the possession of certain papers and documents in the hands of the but Mr M'Ourdy has now agreed to band over these, and has since instructed Messrs Wilford and Levi to take an action against Mr J. G. Wilson and others as proprietors of the Farmers' Union Advocate, for a sum of £256 16s 2d for services rendered in connection with the publication of that paper. It appears that the union whioh is registered under tha Unclassified Societies Aot oannot directly uontrol a newspaper, an.d that the Advooate was purchased ty Mr i Wilson, and others from Mr W. H. (Smith, of Marton, and from the 1 date of its acquirement lias teen run in the interests of the organisation of whioh Mr J. Q. Wilson 'is the official head.

The case is likely to be beard at an early date and some very interesting faats should be brought to light. Arjropos of his resignation Mr M'Ourdy states that he has been tho recipient of numerous congratulatory telegrams from promineut members of the union in tha Auckland, Poverty r ßay, Wellington, Marlborough, Canterbury and the Southland districts of the union, for his reading of the spirit of the uuion's platform. The following is h typical specimen of the messages'ho'has received:—"Hearty congratulations for breaking away from a reactionary organisation."-—Post.
