Tbe. following, is a copy of the monthly report of £the Headmaster of tbe Masterton District Hign School, submitted to the monthly meeting of the School Committee on Thursday eve'ning:— Attendanoe-r Roll, Main School, 691; average attendance, 622;, percentage of attendance, ,90. .Side School, 149; (aver-, age attendance, 125; percentage, of attendance, 84. .-■ Seuoudary Classes, 104; average attendances, .92; percentage of attendance, 88. The attendance ,in both infant departments has been rod need by whooping cough. With this exception the attendance, for the month has.been -satisfactory. One of the piipil teauhera was absent on the 2nd and sth insts., through illness.! Miss I. MoLandress, M.A., took up her duties as third assistant in the secondary department on Monday last. At the urgent requestiof the Secretary of the Board, and with th» o.onourrenoe of the Gha'rman, of tbe School Committee, I allowed one of the assistants on the staff to take charge of the Tauem school on Monday last for a few 'days. Ihe master has been token ill sud • denly and seriously, s apd the Board was unable -to send at once, a ielieving teacher. During the summer vacation the Side School is, to . be painted and repaired. 1 would suggest that the Committee request tbe Board to call for tenders at once, so that the work may be commenced aB early in the. holiday as possible. The grass in the front grounds of the school is very long and shuuld be out,and removed. ,1 would sugr gest to tbe Committee that 'early arrangements be made -for flushing and sanding tbe Main School, and. at the ; Side School, during tbe > Christmas vacation. Good progress is being made with the erection of house and the propagating house.
