CHRIST CHURCH, Nov. 3. was beaufcitul for tbe opening day of fcho Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting, to-day. There was a lar*e attendance. The racing was good all through. The New Zealand Cap was a "boil over," Star Hose winning easily and paying tbe handsome price of £sl Is 6d. Speculation on the machine was brisk. The winning double (Star Rose and Captain Shannon) paid the great dividend of £2,061. The sum of £29,121 inoludiug £2,291 on tbe double tnaohine was put through the totaliEtttor during the day. Turning into the baok stretch, Star Rose joined Makaroff. The latter dropped baok at the top Star Rosfe had a lead of two lengths entering the straight. Multifld challenged Star Rose,' but the latter easily held first position, and passed the post two and a-balf lengths in front of Multifld.
