INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION.
By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Ootober 31. So far as completeness on the opening day is concerned the New Zealand Exhibition is not likely to prove an exoeption to the general rule, for there is yet much to be done to get many of the courts and a considerable portion of the grounds into shipshape order. Strenuous effort's are, however, being made to have things as forward as possible by the morning, and t,ho general impression is that affairs will be found to be in a Batisfactory condition when the Governor performs the opening ceremony. To-day heavy rain has been an obstaole to putting the grounds in order, and sheets of water cover many parts of the tracks and lawns, wh'le the roofing of the building has proved to be somewhat leaky. The keenest interest is manifested in the opening ceremony to-morrow,, and people from all parts of the oountry are flocking into the city. The scene in of the Exhibition aa the ceremonial hour approaches promises to be extremely brilliant. The main body of vice-presidents, ohair - men of Executive Commissioners and Ceremonial will await the Governor's arrival at the main entrance, where his Excellency will be reoeived at half-past eleven o'clock by the president of the Exhibition, and conducted to his seat. A verse of the National Anthem will salute the Vioe-Regal pro* cession, and the choir, accompanied by the orchestra, will sing the National Anthem, after the Governor' has been conduoted to his seat. The Exhibition Ode will also be rendered. Sir Jos. Ward will then present his Excellency with a gold key, and Lord Plunket, after replying, will declare the Exhibition open. This will be the signal for a military salute by the artillery on the sports ground simultaneous with the hoisting of the Union Jack and the flaps of other natious. The National Anthem will be played by the massed bands, and the New Zealand Exhibition of 1906 will bo launched, and the public immediately admitted by all door 9.
