No work of importance was done at Elleralie this morning. Finery, juoftus, Lady Nell aud Pink-'ua arrived yesterday, aud Rustique aud Cryene on Saturday. All were oat, bat were restricted to steady pacing.
The New Zealand-bred fllly Nightfall (Multiform—La Notte) m a de a somewhat unfortunate debut at Birmingham Jasfc month. She was one of tie four runners for the Great Midland Handicap, of £1,330, decided over a mile and five farlongs, nnd, carrying 8.9, was asked tp give 231b to Kunstler, (nged, 7.01, and Nena (4yrs, 7.0), and 2 l Jlb to Sotto Voce (4yrs, 6.8). This was reckoned to be beyond her present abilities, and the New Zealand filly started at the outside nrice of 20 to 1. She ran third to Nena and Sotto Voce, being half-n dozen Inngtha behind the winner. But there wore those who thought Nightfall could have done better, and iu consequence of the way Bradahaw rode her, both be and her owner (Mr R. J. Farqubarson) were ''oarpeted." According to the Sportsman's report the stewards, after hearing what the jockey and Nightfall's owner had to say, expressed themselves dissatisfied with the explanation-given, stating that they i-onsidered the orders issued by Mi Farquharsnn most injudicious, and cautioned both as to the Intore.
