A STEAMER ON FIRE.
PASSENGERS RESCUED BY ANOTHER BTEaMER. Received October 29. 12 23 a.m. CAPETOWN, October 28. The Bteamer Haversbam Grange has been destroyed by fire at sen. She left Cape Verde on October 9tb, and when 800 miles from Capetown a fire was discovered in one of tbe holds. The fi<e spread rapidly. ■ There was considerable excitement onboard tbe vessel, and the position was becoming very serious, bat fortunately help was near at hand. Tbe steamer Mataka arrived while the vessel was blazing, and resoued the passengers, who were eventually landed at Capetown, The Uaveraham Grange was abandoned.
Received October 29, 12.45 a.m. SYDNEY, Ootober 28. The Haversham Grange had a general cargo for Australian ports. It is though' here that tbe name of tbe resouiog vessel should be the Matatua. j
