BRITISH WORKERS' DEMANDS.

LONDON, Ootober 19. Thejßritish au i Irish Shop Assistants' Association jhas asked the Government to legislate to give the local authorities compulsory powers to fix a uniform hour of closing, a weekly half-holi lay, and a working week of 60 hours. Mr Galdstone, Secretary of State for Home Affairs, said it wuald be diffioult to pass a compulsory measure. He added that there was no chance of legislation on the subject at present.
