EKETAHUNA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Eketahuna County Oounail was held, on Saturday, wben there were present—Ore Moss (ohairman), Dorney, FalKner, Kedpatb, Dawson, Griffiths, Pitoaithley, and Lowes. Mr H. 0. Lilly, solicitor, waited on the Oounoil with reference to rates being levied on Mr Lawrence. He stated that the rates were paid by Mi- Yoale. It was decided to write to the Valuation Department and assist Mr Lilly in having the matter adjusted. , A petition was received from the settlers of Waiwera regarding the raising of a ioan for oertaiu works. It was decided that the Chairmau and Overseer sbould attend a meeting of the settlers to oonsider the matter. A letter was received from the Department of Agriaulture drawing the Council's attention to the fact that broom was growing on certain County lands. It was decided to clear away the weed. 4 The Valuation Department wrote notifying that £SOO bad been plaoed to the credit of the County. Mr Burrell, of Mangatainoka, wrote asking for a refund of the coat of his traction engine license. It was deoidod to inform Mr Burrell that tbo Council had no power to make any refund. A letter was received from the Ooromandel County Oounoil asking the Eketahuna Oounoil to 00-operate with them ip asking tho Government to pass an Act whereby hawkers wbo travel from door to door exhiUting goods should be oompelled to pay a license. It was decided to reply that under the Act Oounty Councils were enabled to make a by-law regulating the hawking traffic , Tho Manager of the New Zealand Railways wrote stating that a lamp would be provided on tbe road leadiug to the Eketahuna railway station.

The Overseer's report stated that the Hukanui road had beun repaired; that 110 oubio yards of metal had

been put .on the Mauaranpo Road, and tbe bridge on that road had been completed; that the necessary repairs to the bridge ou the OpakiManawatu Road had been effected; that the drays employed on the Mangaronga Road had completed the work and would be taken to the Mangntainoka roavl. With regard to the bridge on Bell's Road, the Overseer considered that it was not worth docking, and recommended that a 15 man concrete pipe be pat in instead of repairing the bridge. Tho recommendation was approved of, Permission was granted for an extra dray tp ba employed on the Mnngatajppfeq roqd.
