MUSICAL EXAMINATIONS.
The practical examinations in connection with the Associated Board of the Royal Academy and London College of Music was conducted by Mr Wesobe, the Board's examiner, at St. Bride's Convent, on Wednesday. The following are the results (103 marks and over qualifying for a I pass, and 120 marks and over for (honours): — I Local Centre, intermediate grade. j —-Fauny Elkins 109 (singing). j Higher School.—Coralie Smytbsou 123, Phyllis Hanify 123, Lizzie O'Malley 111 (singing); Vera EdI wards 112 (singing). 1 Lower School, Marjorie MoKenoa j 132 (honours). Elementary.—May Cress 124, Effie j Crees 126. The tntol marks of the class from the Convent were 125 out of a possible 150. The following report of the examinations is supplied by Mr A. B. Wallace, honorary local representative:—The following candidates were successful in the practical examination conducted by Mr Walter Wesohe on Wednesday and Thursday last. This being the first practical examination under the auspioes of the Associated Board m Maaterton, it is pleasing to know that, in the opinion of the examiner, the standard ot the work here very favourably compares with older centres. A. uew feature in the examination was the class singing held for the first time in Mastorton, tho report being very good indeed. Local Centre Examinations. —Pianoforte, advanced grade—Mona Moor, (Miss V. Hampton), 127; Hilda M. Hampton, (Miss V. Hamptoa), III; Olive W. Wolteie, (Miss V. Hampton), 108. Intermediate Singing.— Pauny M. Elkins, (St Bride's Convent), 109. School Examination. —Singing— Vera Edwards (St. Bride's Convent), 112; Lizzie O'Malley (St. Bride's Convent), 111. School Examinations. Higher Division Pinnforte—Coralie Smythson (St. Bride's Convent), 123; Phyllis Hanify, (St. Bride's Convent), 123; Frances MoAlium (Miss O'Brien), 104; Ada Rose (Miss O'Brien), 102. Low6r Division Pianoforte.—Marjory MoKeuna (St. Bride's Convent), honours, 132; Winnifred Orr (Miss O'Brien), 114. Elementary Division Pianoforte.— Effie Cress (St. Biide'a Convent), 126; May Cress (St Bride's Convent), 124; Rita Gwendolyn Hampton (Miss V. Hninpton), 114; Kathleen Irene Montgomery (Miss Alice Jones), 104; Doris Lister (Miss O'Brien), 103. The maximum marks were scored in maintenance aim pitch and in accuracy of notes and rests, and eleven out of a p'jesibie twelve for intona tion, and nine out of ten for balance of parts. These marko are subject to final revision. -- Mr Wesche, iu his report on the class singing, sayo:—"l was well satisfied with thy cloea iu Mendelaeoliu ('I Would thnt My Lovo'), Mylss B. Foster ('By the Biver'), and A. Bound ('Glad Hearts and free.') These pieces were precisely executed, and n good volumo of forto tone was produced, but gave no Opportunity to the singers for 'moz:o-vooe.' This last point and sight-reading should receive more attention in the future."
