WITHDRAWAL FROM THE COMMONWEALTH.
THE WEST RA LI AN RESOLUTION. Reoeived September 28, 11.28 p.m. LONDON, September 28. The Morning Post says that the resolution of the Government of Western Australia favouring withdrawal from the Commonwealth is more in the nature of a grumble than a serious expression of intention. Mr W. H. James, Agent-General for Western Australia, in an interview, stated that he attaohed little importance to the resolution, whioh did not represent tbe view of the majority of the electors. Received September 28, 10.14 a.m. MELBOURNE, Sept. 28. Mr Deakin attributes tbe secession resolutions carried in the West Australian Assembly to tbe Senate's action in rejecting the Transcontinental Railway Survey Bill.
BRITISH POST, ATTACKED. Reoeived September 29, 1.25 a.m. LONDON, September 28. The Native Mounted Infantry belonging to the VTesfc Africa frontier force, under a black corpora], and armed with carbines, defended for two hours fcne British post outside a town in the Lake Chad district against an attack of five hundred Tuareys, and finally repulsed them. They pursued their assailants, inflicting heavy losses.
