MAINS FOR PRIVATE ROADS.
MATTER BEFORE THE BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Borough Engineer reported to tbe meeting of the Masterton Borough Counoil, last evening, on tbe question of water maias for private roads. He had accepted an offer from Messrs Briscoe and Co. for 300 4-inch mains at £9 5s per ton; also 300 3-inuh mains, a number of whiah will be required for the alteration to tbe gas mains in Pine Street and for a main in Cornwall Street. The remainder will be required for tbe Hessey Street water main. The Counoil decided to pffer tbe order for pipes to Messrs Burt anl 00. at their previous quotation, and in the event of tbe offer being declined, to import the pipes direct.
