By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 25. The Supreme Court opened, today, before Justice Cooper. Henry Skeen, for attempted rape on a married woman, at Uruti, pleaded guilty, and received the maximum sentence ten years.

Stephen Gannon, an educated man, was sentenced to two years for forgery and uttering. In the case of Carl Schioker, a young Swiss, charged with tbe murder of H. Rollins (also a Swiss), at Kaponga, in July last, tbe Grand Jury found a True Bill on the reduced count of manslaughter. The defence was that the blow was struck .in self-defence, evidenoe being adduced that thedeoeased had on several occasions threatened the prisoner, jealousy over a girl being the caused. His Honor's summing up was favourable. Tbe Jury, after a short retirement returned a verdict of Not Gu'lty. Scbioker was discharged. The death of a six-year old boy ocourred at the hospital this morning, while under chloroform. At the inquest this afternoon a verdict fof death from acute cardiac paralysi-3 was returned. Two large sperm whales, each over 70 feet, disported themselves in the harbour this afternoon, frequently bumping into a dredge. Efforts to strand tbum were unsuccessful.
