FOOTBALL.

THE INIEK-ISLAND MATCH. Great interest is being taken in the North v. South Island matoh, to be played at the Athletic Park, on Saturday. Since the good performance put up by the Otaao team against Wellington the possibilities in favour of the South Inland have increased. The North Iwland team will be without the services of Roberts, on account of an injury received whilst playing against Hawke's Bay, and his place will be taken by H. Kiernan, of Auckland, Glasgow, another of the lste New Zealard combination, is also unable to assist the North, and his place will be taken by T. Cross, of Wellington. It is more than likely that Wallace will also be unable to play, In which case J. O'Leary, of the Wairarapa, should have a chance of inclusion, as Mitchinson is incapacitated.

Otago beat Wauganui, at Wanga•nui, on Tuesday, by 26 points to 5. Tries were scored Otago by Reid (2), Paton, Abbott, Dwyer, and McDonald. Paton converted two tries, and Eckhold and Chambers one each. Otago outclassed Wanganui in all departments of the game. The visiting forwards repeated the performance put up against Wellington, on Saturday, and gave the finest exhibition of forward play seen in Wauganui for many years. The Otago team, accompanied by'tbe Wauganui men (thirty In all) left, yesterday morning, ou a two days' (trip up the Wiangauiii Kiver.
