HIGH COMMIbSIONER'S - REPORT. WELLINGTON, September 17. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following oafcle from the High Commissioner, dated London, September 15th— There has been more inclination to purchase mutton during the past week. The stocks on hand are heavy. The market is firm in anticipation of smaller supplies arriving. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 3%d and North Island 3%d. The lamb market is firm, with a hardening tendency. Stocks are reduced. Light weight Canterbury lamb is extremely 6carce at 4%d; average price for other than Canterbury brands, 4%d. Stocks of Few Zealand beef on hand a«"e light, and there is a much better demand. Hindquarters are quoted at 3%d, and forequarters at 2d. The butter market is firm. There is a large demand for better grades. Choice New Zealand makes are quoted at 115s, Danish 123 a, Canadian 114s per cwt. The cheese market is quiet with a tendency in favour of the buyers. Canadian makes are quoted at 61a 6d per cwt. The hemp market is quiet, and there is lit le business doing. A sood feeling, however, prevail?, and prices are unchanged since last week. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. Bright seed is scarce. Seventeenpound clean dressed lots are worth 45s per cwt. The wool market is firm. 'lhe current prices of Braaford tops are as follow: —36's, low crossbreds, ls4>£d; 40'e, low crossbreds lfl 5% d; 44's, medium orossbrocfa, 46'e, quarterbreds, 2s; 60s, merinos, 2s 2d.
