OTAGO v. WELLINGTON. WIN FOR OTAGO. By Telegraph—Proas Association. WELLINGTON, September 15. The Otago-Wellington match was played at the Athletic Park this afternoon, in the presence of about 4,000 spectators, and resulted in a win for the visitors by 6 points to 3. The weather was favourable, but the ground conditions were all against scientific Rugby, and militated against accurate manipulation of the ball fcy the back divisions. The issue jeas confined to the vanguards, Otago outclassing their opponents in all phases of forward play. Their lively and vigorous work in the open, and superb concerted footwork, fast followiug up, and sound and certain tackling, being in pronounced prominence throughout. The home forwards gave h disappointing exhibition, and the backs, with two exceptions (Mitohinson and Green) shirked the forward rushes of the Southerners. In the first spell Wellington] was on the defensive practically the whole time, the ball being always on its side of the half-way flag. Otago also hold the upper hand in the succeeding half, though the home combination oame with a bie burst in tbe last five minutes, and just missed making a draw if not scoring a victory. Otago's first try in the first spell was the outcome of a passing rusb between Eokhold, Abbott, and Ongley, the last-named going over tbe chalk-mark close to the posts. The kiok at goal was reBulUess. Mid-way through the second spell Abbott followed up a comrade's kick smartly, and fumbling by the local backs resulted in his getting possession and scoring behind the posts. No success followed the attempt at goal. A few minutes to time Green, Mitch nson and Ryan participated in a passing rush, Ryan touching down at the joorner. Spencer failed at goal. OTAGO UNIVERSITY v. SIDNEY UNIVERSITY. DUNEDiN, September 15. The return football matoh, Sydney University v. Otago University, was
played to day. Rain tell la the morning, and the ground was heavy. Flaying against the wind in the first spell the Sydney players more than held their own, the forwards playing a great game, paralysed the efforts of the local backs. The visitors faded away to nothing in the second spell. After presistent attacks uilray scored a clever try for Otago. Sydney rallied, and a penalty kick nearly equalised the scores the ball striking the crossbar and falling underueaib. Otago won by 3 points to nil. The Sydney players, to-day, could scarcely- be recognised as the team tfhinh Otago ran over last Saturday. If the backs had been stronger in attack they must have won. UAWKE'S BAY v. MANAWATU. NaPIER. September 16. Ilawke's Bay defeated Manawatu on Saturday by 12 points to 3. Smith, Bailey, Muuro and Glasgow scored for Hawke's Bay, and Skelley for Manawatu,
