VALEDICTORY.

! PRESENTATION TO MR T. A. COOPER. Mr T. A. Cooper, who has been conneoted with the Masterton branoh of Messrs Dalgei.y and Go. for the past three years, and who has been promoted to take charge of the auctioneering department of the firm's branch at Palmerston North, was tendered a dinner at the Club Hotel, on Saturday evening, by the ( members of the five stock ageuoy firms in Masterton. Mr A. G. Pilmor presided, aud there was a large and representative gathering. After an excellent dinnei, provided by Mr A. C. Scrimgeonr, had been of, the evening was spent in a convivial manner.

In proposing the toust of "The Guest," the Chairman said he had known Mr Copper for about sixteen years. He had always found him a most energetic and capable business man. The progress he had made with his firm, and the position he now held as auctioneer to one of the leading firms in the colony, proved this. Those present would regret the departure of Mr Cooper, and all would wish him success in the future. During the time Mr Cooper had represented Messrs Dalgety and Co. in the Wairarapa he had assisted that firm to make considerable progress. The Chairman then asked Mr Cooper to accept a handsome case of L. and Co. pipes as a token of esteem from the five stock firms iu Masterton. Mr J. Ewart said he had known Mr Cooper for fourteen years. "I have watched hn career," said Mr Ewart, "and I have no hesitation in snying that Mr Cooper will always do good rjusiness." Mr Ewart was pleased to see all the stock agency firms of Masterton represented at the gathering. That showed the high esteem in which Mr Cooper was held. Mr F. W. Carey wished Mr Cooper every success in Palmerston North. "I am sure," said Mr Carey, "that he will always come out on top." Mr A. O. McDonell considered Mr Cooper a very smart man in business, and he was sure he would be very successful on "the other side." Mr J. B. Moodie said that during the timo he ' had worked with Mr Cooper he had found him an excellent worker; iu fact, he was "one of the best." All the staff at tho firm's branch wore exceedingly sorry that Mr Cooper was leaving, but were pleased th&t he had received a promotion, which ho thoroughly deserved. "I feel sure that Mr Cooper will succeed iu his new work," said Mr Moodie. "Though he is leaving behind him many friends in Masterton, he will find many in Palmerston North." Mr A. Oaselborg also referred in eulogistic terms to Mr Cooper's abilities, aud wished him every suooess iu the future. Tho toast was enthusiastically drunk. Mr Cooper, in a neat speech, thanked those present!for drinking his health, for their kind remarks, and for tho valuable present. The other toasts honoured duiing the evening were-—"The King,' tho Chairman; "Stock Industry," Mr D. Oaselberg—Mr O. O. Cooper; "Trade and Commerce," Mr b\ W. Carey—Mr J. B. Moodie; "Auctioneers," Mr A. Oaselberg—Mr to. R. Wood; "Stock Agents," Mr T. Riddoll—Mr J. Ewart; "Host and Hostess," Mr J. B. Moodie—Mr D. K. Logan; "Clerical Staffs," Mr R. O. Smith—Mr R. L. Muir;' "The Ladies," Mr A. O. McDonell—Messrs A. Solanders, D. K. Logan and H. Morrison; "The Press,"Mr A lornß. Songs were sung by Messrs 11. Morrison, H. R. Wood, T. A. Cooper, D. Oaselberg, J. B. Moodie and D. K. Logan. Mr R. B. Bird presided at the piano.
