CAMBRIDGE DEFEATS HAR-

VARD. Received September 10, 12 32 a.m. LONDON, Tbe Harvard and Cambridge University boat race attracted a record atttendance, including thousands of Americans. The enthusiasm was intense. Cambridge won tho toss, and ohose the Surrey side of the river. Cambridge was smarter at the start, and was soon leading by a length. Passing Crabtree Reach they had increased their lead to two and a quarter lengths. The Harvard men, putting on a spurt, shot past the Hammersmith Bridge a length and a quarter in the wake of Cambridge, but the effort was valueless. Though Harvard rowed a dogged, stern chase, Cambridge continued to improve their position, leading by *nree lengths at Barnes, and eventu ally winuing by two lengths in 19min 18sec.
