EDUCATION BOARD.
The Wellington Board of Education met on Thursday afternoon. Present—Messrs R. Lee (chairman), W. 0. Buchanan, Wm. Allan, W. A. Evans, W. H. Field, M.H.R,. T. W. MoDonald, A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., A. H. Vile, and J. Kebbell. This being a n«w board, it became necessary to re-cleat committees. The following were appointed to the Finance Committee:—Messrs Allan, Field, McDonald, Evane, and the chairman (who is ex-offloio member of all committees). Sites Committee —Messrs Hogg, MoDonald, Allan, Kebbell, Buchanan, and the chairman. Agrioultural Committee Messrs Hogg, Buchanan, MoDonald, Allan, Kebbell, Vile. The following recommendations of the Works and Finance Committee were adopted:—That application be made to the department for grants for residences at Maneatiti, Rangitumau. That the following he approved—Featherston connection with public water service; Mangaorongß, subsidy £]s to £2O, half cost of improvements; Horoeka, that £6 8s 4d be paid to G. H. Gillan; Tane, erection of a short fence between girls' and boys' offices. That subsidy on the cost of shelter sheds at the following sobcols be granted :—Marima, provided shed is made so as to be conveniently removed £5. That ohimney tops be provided at-r-Huka-nui, and Crosa Creek. The following recommendations of the Sites Committee were adopted:—■ Rongokokako—That purchase of residence site be completed. Alfredton Erection on new site recommended, provided exobange is a fair one. Mangabao- That section 5, blook 10, be leased from year to year. On the motion of Mr Vile, seconded by Mr Hogg, it was deoided to adviße the Department of Education to purobase from Mr A. Anderson, fnr £520, three aores of laud near the railway station, Eketahuna, for the purpose of a new school, the present site having been condemned an insanitary. Leave of absence for eight or nine months from February, six months on fall pay, was granted to Mien A. Dowdeswell, Kaitara, who has been twenty-eeven years in the service, and who contemplates a trip Home. Leave of absence was also granted as follows:—Miss F. M. Chapman, Mangamaire, until after Christmas vacation; Miss A. Tasker, Carterton, one month; Mr K. Foes, Fernridge, two or three weeks.
