CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Oastlepoint County Council was held on Saturday last. Th°re were present —Councillors A. J. Speedy (chairman;, Langdon, Bennett, Ryder, Innes and Richardson. Mr Carroll, surveyor, waited on the Council for the purpose of getting the Chairman's signature to a plan of a road from the Waihobi Road to the Red Gate at the end of Lang's Road on Te Mai. Correspondence was read aB follows:—From Mr G. Foreman complaining that the Tiuui Valley Road had not been opened for wheel traffic sinco the heavy rains, and requesting that it should get immediate attention. From the Valuer-General regarding the amount of rates collected from properties transferred from the Akifcio County, Fiom the Mayor of Wellington regarding the memorial to the late Premier, aud stating that a general committee had been appointed which includes oil Mayors and Chairmen of Local Bodies ex officio, and it is desired to arrive at a definite decision as to the form the memorial should take, and suggesting two proposals—establishing scholarships ou similar Hues to the Rhodes scholarshins, or a New Zealand Technical University with free scholarships. From the District Road Engineer regarding grants to roads in the county which obculd have been sent in May. From Mr Nevins applying for costs of repairs to road £6, and enquiring what nmount would be allowed to repair the road later on, and stating that if it is possible to get metal about two miles from the bottom of Manawn Hill to the shed at Anuedals. Probably a loan would be raised to do the work.
Cr A. B. Niubolls placed his resignation bafore tne Council, ho hating disposed of his property at Tinoi. This wan accepted, and the Return ing Officer was directed to take the necessary steps to elect a councillor in hia place. Jt was unanimously agreed to support the proposal to establish a New Zealand Technical University, with tree scholarships, as a national memorial to the late Premier. Crs Beunet and Richardson were appointed to sign the rate book. The monthly report on the progress of work viae read and considered. Or Innea was authorised to approach the Minister of Lands with a view to obtaining the servioes of an engineer to lay off a road from the Tiuui Valley to join Lang's Road at Te Mai. It was resolved to again apply to the Survey Department for an engineer to lay off a road from Tinoi
Valley to Pakowni; (2) that tenders be called for metalling on the Langdale Uuti Road as soon as estimates can be prepared; (3) that the necessary timber for Flag Creek Bridge and two cottages and the timber for culverts for the several roads be ordered; (4) that the Foresters be given notice that the agreement for the use of the office as a Lodge room will terminate at the end of the year. Cr Bennett gave notice that at next meeting of the Couuoil he would move "that gorse be brought into the first schedule, and the Act made operative." Acoounts aoiounting to £174 19s were passed for payment.
