SALE OF WORK.

THE MELANESIAN MISSION FUND. The annual sale of work of the St. Barnabas Association, in aid of tbe Melanesian Mission Fund was opened in S. Matthew's Schoolroom, jesterday afternoon. 'lhe attendance throughout the afternoon and ovening was large. The success which has so far attended the function must be pleasing to the promoters. A number of stalls, wbioh ore well stocked, are artistically arranged in the Schoolroom, and refleot tbe greatest credit on those responsible for the work. Almost any article from vegetables and flowers to fancy work and clothing can be purchased at the stalls. Afternoon tea can also be obtained.

The following ladies have charge of tbe various stalls Produce—■ Misses G. Dixon, M. Hampton, and E. Townsend. Flowers—Misses R. Ross, V. Keith, R. Gower, Gawith (2), and A. Seller. CakeMiss tfowler. Confectionery Misses K. Robins, T. Jackson, and M. MoNair. Doil—Misses D. La Roche, M. Wagg and M. Sutton. Fancy— Mosdames Paget, W. Ma9on and Misses Howell and Hampton. Needlework Mrs Ohennells, and Misses E. Pearne and E. Murray. Fishing Pond—Misses H. Fuller, G. Rawson and E. Waddington. Brau Tub—Miss E. Keee. Gipsy Tent— Mrs Wright. Afternoon Tea—Mesdames I'annin, McNair, Pinkerton and Miss Fannin. Miss Y. Jackson aoted aa door keeper. During the afternoon a number of musical items were given. Mrs Rawson snag "The Va Joy by the Sea" very sweetly, and was deservedly applauded. Mr S. Earee wns Inndly npphtuded for his singing of "Three Merryccn." A uumber of piauofoite solos were tastefully played by Mtes Waddington. In the evening Mr 0. E. Hugo was kept busy giving delineations of character from faces and handwriting. Songa were sung by Misses Fuller, V Edwards, Howell and Rev. A. M. Johnson, and recitations were given by Miss M. Wagg and Mr Kemp. Miss Waddington, Mr W. Jones and Master L. von Keisenborg played pianoforte solos. The piano used was leut by tho Wellington Piano Company, through their Mastwrton agents, Messrs MuLeod and Young.

Tbe sale of work will be continued during this afternoon and evening. Among the attractions this evening will bo au entertainment by the Lady Coons.
