WELLINGTON August 27, The Department .of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, August 24tb: —The mutton market is very dull. Canterbury brands are quoted at 3%d to 334 d; North Island brands are atjseiling at 33^d to The lamb market is weak. The demand still continues, but is not quite so brisk. The arrivals are heavy. Canterbury brands are quoted at 4V£d, other than Canterbury 4%d. The beef market is steady at the prices cabled last week. The butter market is firm, and prices continue to advance. Danish is quoted at 122 a per owfc. Small supplies of New Zealand are coming forward and selling at 112s per cwt. There ia a strong market for cheese. Canadian makes are selling nt 61s per cwt. The hemp market is quiet; goo 1 ! fair average quality, Wellington, on spot, ia worth £34 per ton; in distant deliveries £33 lOsj to £34 is asked for Octobei-Deoemoer shipments. Manila v fair current, on spot, is quoted at £42 per ton. The cocksfoot market ia flat, and buyers are holding back. There is no business doing. New Zealand long-berried wheat, on spot, ex-graaary, per 4961b5, is quoted at 31s 6d, shoyt-berried 30s 6d. These prices are nominal. New Zealand sparrowbill oats per 3841 bs are worth 24s 6d to 25s 6d; Danish per 3201bs are worth 19s to 20s. There is a steady market. New Zealand beans; f.a.q. old orop are steady at 34fc to 35s per 5041b5. Ihe market for peas is quiet. New Zealand Partridge peas are quoted at 42s to 50s per 5041b5; blue peas. 30s to 40s per 5041b5.
