The weights for the Marton Meeting, which will take place on September sth and 6th, appear to have been framed un a fairly equitable basis, and should bo followed by a good response from owners. Jeanne d'Arc, who was spelled the whole ot last season, is expected to make her re appearance in the Shorts Handicap, in which she has been awarded top weight, 9at. Trainer Tatham does not believe in hurrying hie charges, so the mare may not be quite forward enough to win, and the winner may therefore come from lower do vn in the list. Black Reynard, list Tib, heads the list in the Trial Hurdles, and, being a fast jumper, should about win. Ngatarua, lOst 101b, and Bonhear, 9dt 131b, may make thoir first appearance over slicks in tD'B event. iNgatarua is by Sou'-wetter, and should make a very Droflcient jumper with a little more schooling. A splendid field of hpeks should bo seen ont to contest the Flying Handicap. Splendid Idea (9st), Mataari (Bst lib), Frisco (7st 121b), and Pytchley (7afc 41b) read well in this event. The Mastertou horses engaged in this race are Moloch, Te Kanui, Tale Teller, and Uam Var, and of this lot the first-named may run prominently. Letherin holds pride of place in the Crofton Handicap, with 9st. He will need tn be very forward in condition to win with this weight. Rustique, winner of the last Connolly Handicap (7st 131b), Waikato l7sfc 131b), Apa (7st 81b), Landwern (7st 61b), Moscow (7st 21b) and Montigo (6st 131b) all road well, and lam inclined to think that Lotherin has beeu rather harshly treated. In the Handioap Hurdles there are some very promising jumpers, of which Black Reynard (list 71b), Asteroid (lOst 131b), Oryx lOst 131b, and Catspaw (9st 131b) may he the beat. The Tutanni Welter should b« a well-contested race. Landweru (lOst lib), Montigo f (9st 131b), Benraore (9st 31b) and Moloch <9st lib) appear to have a likely prospect of fighting out the issue. Capnlet has been sohooled over jumps lately, and will probably be a starter in the Open Hurdles at Marton next week. Great interest is being., taken in • the Wairarapa Hunt Club meeting, to be held on the Taratahl course next week. Quite a number of hunters are in aotive commission in view meeting, and the hack events will be very strongly contested. The arrangements in connection with the gathering are well lorward. One of the latest horses to come into favour for the New Zealand Cup is Star Rose, a 6 year-old mare by Daystar—Queen Rose. Last season she won the WaitaraCap, Taranaki Christmas aud Autumn Handicaps. She ran live seuoods, and her best performance was probably m the Taranaki Cup, wbeu she a<ited aa runner-up to Paritutu.
