Y.M.C.A.
A meeting of those interested in the formation of a branch of the White Cross League in Masterton was held in the Y.M.O.A. Rooms, last evening. Mr J. Heyhoe presided over a good attendance. The committee which had been set up to confer with Mr Bligh on matters connected with the White Cross League's work reported that the question was of such a delicate nature and was of such widespread interest that it was necessary to proouie the co-operation of all residents who realise their responsibilities towards the youth of the town. The Chairman intimated that be would have preferred to see some of the leading citizens present, and suggested thai; another meeting should be held a fortnight hence for the purpose of giving the matter greater publicity. In the interval it would be advisable to extend invitations to local lodges and institutions to send representatives and also to all persons who felt sufficiently interested to assist in tne work. Other speakers pointed out that the question was of such gieat importance that it demanded more than the ordinary enthusiasm to carry it out, and that if a branch were formed it would be necessary for the members to devote tnemselves almost entirely to the work. After the matter had been discussed at some considerable length the Chairman's suggestion was adopted, and it was decided to adjourn tbe formation of the League UDtil a meeting to be held on Wednesday, September sth. Mr C. Redman read an interesting and instructive e9say on "Bobbies," at the meeting of the Y. M.C.A. Literary and Dbbating Society, held last evening. Considerable disoussion took place on the paper. The speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Next Wednesday the members of the Society intend paying a visit to the Carterton Literary and Debating Society.
