A busy time in front of the Auckland goal followed, but bad shooting on the part of tho local toam lost a possible score. Wairarapa returned to the a'.tuck, but more erratic hitting followed, and Auckland cleared s;!ieii' lino in good stylo. Auckland then attacked ana Wairarapa an anxious time. ThynneaudJ. Fisher, ■hjwover, showed fine defence, and saved a uoore. The Wairai pa forwards, headed tiy Rue, shifted play to the centre. Donald was conspicuous for a line piece of play which resulted iu Auckland being again busy defending their line. However, they shifted play, and for a few minutes Wairarapa were on tho defensive. J. Wairarapa 0 Auckland 0 The second half of the game proved much faster and more intereating than the first spell. The ball was up and down the field, and the home team, playing better hockey than they did in tbe first spell, vvoce frequeutly in the visitors' circle. J Shortly after the play commenced. Auckland attacked, but Donald relieved splendidly. After a piece of interesting and fast play, Wairarapa, were in their turn the attacking W. Fisher had a shot at goal, but Sara, tbe Auckland goalkeeper, turned it off. From a bully Auckland got the ball away to the centre, but the home ream renewed their attack. Sara, who was playing magnificently, again relieved tho pressure. The visitors' forwards broke away, but Ibynne and Donald repelled the attack. Mainly through a fine piece of play along the wing by Rue, the home team were again in the visitors' circle. i Tb9 visitors' forwards came down the field witn a rash, but Donald relieved by smart play. From then to tbe end of the game the ball was up and down the field, neither side having the ad vantage. When time was called neither side had scored. Wairarapa ... ... 0 Auckland 0 Of the Wairarapa backs, Thynne (fullback) and Donald (halfback) played splendidly. Both men showed fine defenoe. J. Fisher played well, and Fairbrother helped in a great measure to prevent the visitors from scoring. Williams, Rue, Bunny and W. Fisher were the pick of the forwards. Undoubtedly the best back on the ground was Sara, the visitors' goalkeeper. He repeatedly saved his side. Hill and Anderson, the fullbacks, put in good work, and of the halves Porter was perhaps the most noticeable. Lepine was the best of an even lot of forwards. Mr S. A.
