Tho Rev. D. 0. Bates, Government meteorologist, has been making a comparison between the temperature of Wellington and London. During the last four years the maximum temperature recorded iu Wellington was 82.3 degrees; tbe minimum was 30.5 degrees; and tbe mean 54.5 decrees. The figueros for London were 91.0, 15.8, and 50.6 respectively. It is stated that the recent de monstration of wireless telegraphy ai Queenscliff, by the Marconi Company, cost about £4,000, but it has not brought nearer the adoption by the Commonwealth of this or any other system. Inquiries are still being pursued by the Postmasfer-Geueral and eventually tenders will be called, open to all tbe wireless systems invented. ,The Postmaster-General stated that so far as Australia was concerned, tho wireless system would be of most benefit to shipping. It might also be utilised with success on the goldflelds, where more permanent works in the shape of telegraph posts and miles of wire would not be justified. Prom what he had learned, it would be costly to remove a wireless station from a goldQsll which, had petered^out.
