STOCK REPORT.
Mr W. Rose reports as follows: During the past fortnight 1 have held the undermentioned sales:— July 16tb, Mr Wallace's clearance sale at Waikopiro.—A pouring wet day, consequently the attendance was small, nevertheless, the whole of the dairy herd was sold under the hammer at an average of £4 eaoh. All the farm implements, tools, etc., ware also sold at satisfactory prices. July 18tb, Messrs Gauiman and Co.'s clearance sale at Tataoraite.—The draughts consisted chiefly of mares in foal and realized up to £39 10s. The young horseß were all sold privately after the sale. Working bullocks brought £8 10a, with yokes given in. The mill buildings and timber were all sold under the hammer at auction priaes. July 21st, Dannevirke horse sale. •—There was an entry of over GO horses, the majority of them being light backs or harness horses. Draughts realised up to £3B, hacKS and harness horses up to £l6, poorer sorts from £2 up to £6. July 24tb, Mr F. Finsen's clearinc sale at Koreewood.—Another wet day, but the sale was well attended and bidding for the dairy herd was spirited, the average price being a trifle over £4 per head, two-year old heifers 37s 6d to £2 Is, weaners 12s. July 27th Dannevirke stock sale. —Several of the advertised lines did not oome forward, therefore there was only a moderate yarding. After the sale and together with the auction pract'cally every line was sold. I quote as follows:—Sheep: Pat ewes 18s 6d, ewes in lamb 16s, old ewes in lamb 4s sd. Cattle: Springing heifers £3 15s to £5, cows at drop up to £B, cows to calve at factory dates £1 Iss to £3 15s, weaners 12a 6d.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.

WELLINGTON, July 30. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, July 28th: The mutton market is dall. Trade of all classes is very slow, and prices are barely maintained. The average price of light weight Canterbury biands is 3%d, heavy weights 3%d, be3t quality North Island mutton is quoted at while second-class quality is selling at 3J£d. The lamb market is steady and is likely to remain so. There is a good demand for all hrands. The average price of Canterbury lamb is sd, other than Canterbury 4%d. There is a better demand for beef. The supplies of American chilled beef are small. Hind-quarters are quoted at forequartera 2#d. The butter market is firm, aod prices continue to advance. The prospeots for next season's market are more favourable than last year. There is only a small supply of best quality on hand. Choice New Zealand brands, to-day, are worth 108s per owt. The cheese market is steady with a very good demand. White makes bring 645, and coloured 60s cwt. Wellington hemp ou spot, today, is quoted at £34 10s, OctoberDecember shipment £34 per ton, fair current Manila on spot selling at £43 per ton. The cocksfoot seed market is dull. Buyers are not keen on business. The average, price of bright, clean dressed seed is 46s per owt. The wool market is quiet, and there is no alteration in prices.
